Hywel Gwynfryn

Born, Llangefni Anglesey July 13th 1942 Hywel shares a birthday with Harrison Ford.

1961  Cardiff College of Music and Drama.

1964  Joined BBC , as a presenter on a daily television magazine programme.

1968  Presented the first ever Welsh language pop programme on Radio.

1970 Joined Childrens programmes. Filmed documentaries in Australia, Fiji,  Florida, Singapore, Indonesia, Borneo and Sarawak.

1977 Presented the flag- ship morning programme on the newly established Welsh Language broadcasting service-Radio Cymru.

1980 Presented his own live television chat show on Sunday nights.

1990 Presented a television  series called 'On your bike' and filmed all over the world following Welsh families who had left Wales to follow their dream. He visited China Japan, Dominican Republic, New Zealand, Greece, France,  Italy, Canada.

2000 Visited Patagonia to do a series of radio programmes, and presented a live broadcast from the Eisteddfod in Trelew.

At the moment he travels Wales as an 'ambassador' for Radio Cymru, linking various communities through live radio inserts and interviews. He also has his own live Radio show on Sunday Morning.

Apart from his work as a broadcaster, Hywel has been a prolific writer of songs, shows, and pantomimes for television, radio and the theatre. He recently wrote a song-Guardian Angel- which was recorded by Bryn Terfel, and the proceeds from the sale of the CD will go to his chosen charity Air Ambulance Wales.

He has written a biography of Hugh Griffith, and is now working on a biography of the popular Comedy duo Ryan and Ronnie.

He is a very happy self- confessed workacholic.

The highlights of his career- so far:

Meeting Muhammad Ali, and presenting him with a book of Welsh poetry, to wish him luck in his fight against Henry Cooper.

An audience with the Pope in Rome.

Offered work as a clown with Barnum and Bailey Circus in Florida

Refused an offer to marry the daughter of  the chief of the Iban tribe in Sarawak.

Wining an achievement award for services to Welsh language radio.

Honoured with the Gorsedd white robe for services to broadcasting in Wales.

and of course, producing seven lovely children!
