Wynne Evans is a broadcaster, presenter, and professionally trained opera singer. He hosts the highest-rated daily radio show on BBC Radio Wales and has released two number one classical music albums. Born in South West Wales, Wynne trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the National Opera Studio in London.
Most recently, he showcased his culinary talents and was crowned the Celebrity MasterChef Champion. A year later, he put on his dancing shoes and joined the cast of Strictly Come Dancing.
Wynne has also starred alongside his long-term friend Joanna Page in the BBC show All At Sea, following the success of his own BBC Series, including One Night Only with Wynne Evans, Wynne’s Welsh 70s/80s and 90s, Wynne at the Deep End and In It to Wynne It.
His daily radio show is the hugely popular with a very loyal fanbase of ‘Wynners’, and he can also be heard presenting on BBC Radio 2.
With a 25-year operatic career, Wynne has performed as a principal at leading opera houses worldwide, including The Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, Paris Opera De Lyon, and the Metropolitan Opera in New York. He notably sang the role of Piangi in the 25-year anniversary performance of The Phantom of the Opera, broadcast live from the Royal Albert Hall to cinemas worldwide. He has also performed over 200 times at the Royal Albert Hall.
You may recognise Wynne from his role as spoof opera star, Gio Compario in Go Compare’s iconic ads. A brand ambassador for 15 years, Wynne has appeared in over 150 commercials, as well as writing and producing many of them.
As a lifelong Tottenham Hotspur fan, Wynne had the honour of performing at their final game at White Hart Lane and again at the opening of the new stadium to 62,000 fans. He has also performed at over 20 Welsh rugby internationals, including famously responding to the New Zealand Haka.
Beyond his performances, Wynne is a trustee of Grange Park Opera and Patron of Ty Cymorth. He holds an honorary Fellowship from the University of Wales, was honoured by the National Eisteddfod with the title of Gorsedd of the Bards, and was awarded the British Empire Medal in the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Honours list.
